I can show you this new Skyline I got, but you have to pinky promise not to tell anyone. Ok?
Alright. Let’s begin then.
When you talk about some of the best tuned Skylines out there, Top Secret is a name that comes up early and often. Ignition’s latest barrage of Skyline models centers around this popular tuning house located in Chiba, Japan, famous for churning out some of the world’s most absurd track monsters. The BNR34 is one of Top Secret’s most well-known pieces of work, so it only makes sense to secure this one first before exploring their other juicy offerings.
Let’s take a closer peek, shall we?
From a distance, you can already tell that this is much more than your ordinary R34 GT-R. I jumped on this clean, black example after falling for the excellent contrast provided by the white TE37 racing wheels (again, best wheels ever). Top Secret’s signature color is actually gold, which is reserved for the project cars that have accumulated a certain number of “achievements”—top speed records, hot lap times, and the like. But, as big a fan as I am of anything gold, the black-over-white is a far meaner look for the macho R34. The chrome side stripes and decals also provide the perfect contrast against the metallic black finish. I don’t remember the last time I saw someone do these in chrome, but it’s a fantastic idea.
I’m also not entirely sure this color combo is based on a real-life example—I haven’t been able to find a single photo of a BNR34 in this exact spec—but a great colorway is a great colorway.
The visual modifications, featuring a combination of NISMO-sourced and in-house-designed sheetmetal, dramatically beef up Godzilla’s muscular profile. This Top Secret BNR34’s most unique aspect is its three-way titanium exhaust: a set of twin pipes coming out in front of the passenger door (right-hand drive, remember?), one behind the door, and the big kahuna out the back. Set the car off with the perfect stance and you have the ultimate Skyline fanboy magnet.
Underneath the never-ending list of cosmetic and performance upgrades is a V-Spec II R34 GT-R that, while potent on its own, isn’t enough to satisfy Top Secret and its founder, Kazuhiko “Smokey” Nagata’s, insatiable appetite for speed. 200+ MPH is routine for them. So, how much power did they manage to squeeze out of the venerable RB26DETT? I can’t tell you because that’s top secret. However, do expect to be king of drag strips and racetracks near you. They don’t call this a “Super GT-R” for no reason.
